Galloping Waves paints the ocean as a stampede, white-water crests rendered like a herd of horses charging toward the shore. It's one of the earlier pieces in the collection, painted in oil, and you can see the beginnings of a lot of the colour and movement instincts that show up in later, more refined work. The painting leans into contemporary abstraction, more about the energy and force of the sea than an accurate depiction of it. It now lives in a private collection, but it remains one of the pieces that best captures where this whole practice of painting motion and emotion really started.
